Let´s read Lentils

This image shows some of the covers of  many cooking books for preparing lentils, much of them vegan books. The one that had my attention was written by Robert McCloskey in 1940. He was an american writer and illustrator for children books, after making a little more research about the book I noticed that it was not a story about a boy that play the harmonica to make all the kinds of the town eat their lentils... is was not a story of a boy that distract his mom playing for avoiding the lentils soup... The boy was named Lentil!! so... no food in the story :( but lots of music for sure

Geography

Researchers agree that the origin of Lentils was on Israel with more than 7000 - 9000 years of antiquity, spreading later on to India, Egypt and Europe. 

At the beginning in Egypt were considered food for royalty, then they were eaten by the constructors of the pyramids and its known that Egypt was a good producer that export lentils. 

By the time lentils became known in all the world with many different ways of prepare them. The following map shows the actual regional producers.

Selling privileges for a lentil soup...

There was Issac and Rebeca, both little old with the illusion of being parents. They ask for help to the Lord because Rebeca was not able to have babies. At the age of 60, Issac was the father of twins. During the pregnancy Rebeca felt how both babies were fighting and se go to the Lord and ask him. 

He said -You have two nations in your womb, both are going to be strong but the older (Esaú) is going to serve the younger (Jacob). 

At the birth the younger was pulling at his brother feet, he wants to be stronger and better even before they go outside Rebecas womb. The time pased by and Esaú was the favorite of Issac, the older, the one that has all the birthrights that are very important for jewish people, he is the one that deserves all the blessings of this father. 

Esaú was a really good hunter, and Jacob was a plain man, Rebecas favorite. 

One day Esaú returned very tired of his hunting, he saw Jacobs food and tried to convince him to give some, but Jacob proposed a deal... 

The Lentils soup for his birthrights... He accepted and in that moment he lost every right, and he despised everything he could get with that blessing. 

But Jacob said, “First, promise me that you will give them to me.” So Esau made an oath to him and sold his rights as the firstborn son to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil soup. Esau ate the food, had something to drink, and then left. So Esau showed that he did not care about his rights as the firstborn son.

The Monkey and the Lentils

Once upon a time, there was a merchant in his way to the next selling point in other valley, he was tired and he decided to make a little stop to take a quick nap under a big tree.
A little and inexpert monkey saw the big bag of the man and decided to explore... the man had millions of delicious lentils, so the monkey go up in the tree and took many lentils with his hands. After a little of time a lentil fell down and the monkey wanted to recover that one. So he tried to go down and he drop all the lentils of its hands in the head of the merchant... The merchant he woke up, closed the bag and continue his way.
